Research Assignment

Light Trigger
This is a tutorial demonstrating how to turn a light on and off using a proximity trigger using flowgraphs and entities.

Experiment 2: The Analytics Engine.

Arduino Light Sensor Feed
This experiment consisted me of processing data collected by past students and visually representing their findings through Crysis Wars: Sandbox 2 using various techniques such as entities, Sketch Up and the key technique, XML and their flowgraphs.
I processed the pachube feed named the Arduino Light Sensor Feed. I wanted to represent something similar to my previous experiment which was energy consumption hence the use of light was quite relevant in my research. This feed displays light input data ranging from 0 to 1023, as collected by a light dependent resistor within an Arduino scheme. A high value currently represents low light intensity, and a low value represents high intensity. Within the XML that was successfully created using the wget software it gave me 3 different sets of values: maximum values, minimum values and the current values; both belonging to 2 child XML's named the Light Sensor and the Range Sensor. Therefore I represented two sets of data using 3 towers created in Sketch Up within a building also design in Sketch Up. Although I was unsccessful in exporting the models properly into Sandbox, materials and certain sections of the models are unavailable in the environment. I have included those files below.

Experiment One: Pure War!

Energy Consumption
This is my representation of the overall consumption society has on energy in order for individuals to carry out there daily lives. I got this inspiration from Pachube where it has a continuous rise in energy shown from the graphs. I wanted to create a very distopian atmosphere where it presented the viewer with a very dark and ominous tone. My overall ambition in this video was to show a digitalised representation of what the future will hold once humanity takes energy for granted and has used up the resource.
Firstly i changed the time of day to Midnight and reducing the brightness of the level using the Time of Day settings. After establishing a particular setting using the terrain editor I used numerous objects, carefully placing them to create a miniature town. The objects I used were lanterns, AI's, village buildings and poles. I wanted the lanterns to represent a very traditional way to create light, showing how society will result in using such historic methods once energy is scarce. I used numerous triggers for the lanterns to brighten once the character moves in the triggered area. I then place 4 AI's at the start of the level, creating an AI path for them to follow into their own individual village buildings which have no light. This conveys how society will have to live in darkness enhancing the gloomy tone.
Lastly i made the end house have 3 AI's placed, putting a glow flowgraph setting for when the character in game, got closer to them they would start glowing. This represented how humans have over embraced and taken energy for granted leaving them with all the energy consumed, living in darkness.
